Who Gets Cataracts?
The majority of cataracts are related to aging. More than half of Indians over 65 have cataracts. Babies are sometimes born with cataracts, also called congenital cataracts, or children may develop them as a result of injury or illness. Exposure to Ultraviolet (UV) light can also increase the risk of cataract and other eye conditions.

65+ సం" వయసు పైబడిన వారిలో 50% మందికి శుక్లాలు ఉంటాయి. ఇది సహజంగా వయసుతో వచ్చే సమస్యగా భావించవచ్చు. కొన్నిసార్లు జన్యు పరమైన లోపాలవలన, షుగర్, ఇతర జబ్బులవలన చిన్న వయసులోనే రావచ్చు. చిన్నపిల్లల్లో కొన్నిసార్లు పుట్టినప్పిటినుంచే శుక్లాలయూ ఉండవచ్చు వీటినే కంజెనిటల్ క్యాటరాక్ట్స్ అంటారు. UV రేడియేషన్ కి అధికంగా ఎక్సపోజ్ అయినా శుక్లాలు రావచ్చు.
